WE BELIEVE THAT BUSINESS SHOULD BE ABOUT MORE THAN JUST MAKING MONEY, IT SHOULD BE ABOUT RESPONSIBILITY AND PUBLIC GOOD.

We’ve always believed in using profit for good. So in 1990 we set up The Body Shop Foundation, our charitable trust. Currently we make an annual donation of £650,000, as well as donating end-of-line stock for the Trust to sell.

Since we established the Foundation, we’ve donated over £11 million to more than 3,000 projects around the world.

The Foundation deliberately seeks out innovative projects working for social and environmental change, driven by enthusiastic, energetic groups at grass roots level. People who, because of the pioneering nature of their work, would find it hard to get conventional funding elsewhere.

Currently the Foundation is funding organisations working on education in Zambia, environmental conservation in Romania, as well as domestic violence initiatives across Europe and child trafficking in Asia.

DONATION TO YAYASAN TERANGI

The Body Shop Foundation always supports environmental protection programs including actions to protect biodiversity and natural resources. This is consistent with the values we believe in, one of them is Protect Our Planet.

In line with the mission carried out by Yayasan Terumbu Karang Indonesia (TERANGI), The Body Shop Foundation supports conservation and management programs of Indonesia's marine resources, especially coral reefs.

Indonesian oceans contain 60% of the existing coral reefs all around the world. Unfortunately, the condition of these coral reefs is degrading. This is caused by degradation resulted from human exploitation in excessive coral reefs removal, marine-pollution and human ignorance. If this is ignored, the extinction of coral reefs will be a definite future. Coral reefs are homes for many sea creatures, provides meaningful resources for human, and serves as a protecting function for the shores. The lost of coral reefs means the loss of those important functions.

The Body Shop Foundation is involved in Program Kesadaran Masyarakat (a part of Indonesia's coral reefs conservation activity) by giving donations. The amount of US$ 8,000 which was donated to Yayasan TERANGI has been used to finance the making of the comic serial “Bondan & Undul”.

Yayasan TERANGI targets this comic to be read by children at the age of 8–12 years old. The purpose is to give information that may be easily absorbed by them to increase their awareness on the importance in protecting coral reefs from degradation and extinction.

The story of “Bondan & Undul” is attractively told. It tells us about the story of a boy on a mission to save the coral reefs in an island in Indonesia. The illustrations are filled with many kind of fish on the verge of extinction from the Indonesian oceans. This comic is beautifully packaged with the caricature of a cute sea creatures, so it will stimulate a child’s curiosity and help the process of absorbing information through the illustrations.

At this moment, Yayasan TERANGI has produced posters, books, comics, and another educational materials in two languages, English and Bahasa.

Yayasan Sahabat Anak

The support of the Body Shop Foundation for Pusat Kegiatan Anak

The existence of street children on the streets of Jakarta is an alarming social condition. In fact, the number continues to increase ever year. Serious measures need to be taken. Witnessing this condition, The Body Shop Foundation awarded a beneficiary grant to Sahabat Anak (SA) who fight for the basic rights of children to stay alive, attain shelter, protection and education.

Sahabat Anak was established in 1997 and has been devoted to the development of street children through Pusat Kegiatan Anak (PKA). The background of PKA is to activate the function of alternative schools for street children who are unable to continue their education. PKA provides the education needs, both formally through intensive study guidance and informally through skill building activities at an accessible health care centre.

The funds in the amount of Rp 263.950.000 was given to Sahabat Anak to carry out the PKA's informal education program. In every program, PKA accommodates around 50 children, this means that in one year PKA helps to educate around 100 children. They need to complete a learning period of one semester (6 months) up until one year in order to graduate.

By attending this educational program, we wish to absorb the number of street children so they no longer live and work in dangerous places, such as in side walks, road intersections or in the streets, and instead go back to their parents and families, finish their school and with the skills attained, be able to work and live independently.
