The Body Shop Indonesia committed to become a role model in retail business that gives the highest commitment for environment. This has been in parallel to one of our values Protect Our Planet and are evident through these forms:
Our Soaps
All our soaps use palm oil from the sources that has been certified by Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). We will not use palm oil that comes from a palm company that doesn’t follow the principles of environmental friendly.
Our Bottles
We are striving for our bottles to be made out of 100% recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate).
Our Woods
In 2008, 63% of our wood products were produced by the member of Forest Stewardship Council, an organization who issued certification for woods that comes from a sustainable forest.
In the year 2010, we are targeting all our products contain wood, including the fixtures in our stores, to use 100% certified wood by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Our Recycled Paper
We only use 100% recycled and biodegradable paper for our paper bags, also our brochures and leaflets. The ink that we use is an environmental friendly soya base ink.
Customer Engagement
We are inviting our customers to participate in our Climate Change Campaign through:
1. Bring Back Our Bottle Program
Starting April 5th 2010, we introduce the renewed Bring Back Our Bottle program. For every 5 stamps or 25 bottles you bring back to one of our stores, we will give you one Bag For Life as a token of appreciation for your participation and support. Your empty bottles will be collected by the Indonesian Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation on a regular basis and sorted at their Recycling Depot by volunteers. The sorted bottles will then be sold off to a factory who processes plastic for recycling purposes.
Proceeds will go to support the foundation's missions to help alleviate poverty, disaster relief, provide health protection, and various education & social-cultural missions (www.tzuchi.or.id) . The motto of this movement is "Transforming Waste into Gold, Gold into Love.” Through this process The Body Shop-Indonesia is minimizing the waste it contributes to landfills and you will be happy to know you are doing your part in supporting these noble causes.

2. Bag for Life
We sell cotton-made bag to replace plastic bag that can not be recycled and contaminates our environment.
The profit of Bag for Life has been donated to The Children on The Edge Foundation, a non profit organization that provides playgrounds for children in the conflict areas such as in Nangroe Aceh Darussalam and East Timor.

3. Volunteering Program
Our Values are our DNA and soul of this business and in order to pursue it, we need staffs that has the concern and high integrity towards our values.
Every year we plan volunteering programs in collaboration with many NGOs who work on HIV/AIDS issues, living environment or in schools that needs volunteer helps.
4. Waste Management and Save Energy
“Green Office Green Behavior” is our commitment in the head office of The Body Shop Indonesia, in Bintaro. We divide our trash into four categories: plastic, paper, bottle/cans and food trash. Our food trash is transformed into compost and thereby reduces the amount of trash delivered to the TPA. While plastic, paper and bottle/cans trash can be compiled by trash-collectors. And what is more, we trained the Green Champions from our staffs to get involved in supervise this Waste Management program to be a living example for the others.
Another important matter is the “No Styrofoam In The Office” policy. We are also trying to reduce the use of electricity, water and paper by turning off monitors while out of office, using both side papers for our internal use and not to print any documents, unless needed.
