Think-Act-Change: The Body Shop Documentary Film Competition is a breakthrough from The Body Indonesia in order to campaign social and environmental changes into a better condition. “Everyone could be an activist”, said Anita Roddick. Through films, we invite film-makers and audiences to be ‘an agent of change’ by doing the transformations based on their own capacity. Through film, especially documentary film, the film-makers could learn to obtain a deep understanding of the issues and declare their demenour, whilst the audiences could picture the reality.
Think-Act-Change: The Body Shop Documentary Film Competition is started in the year 2007 with the support from Dewan Kesenian Jakarta, film-makers, activists and public figures who were concerned about various issues such as HIV/AIDS, violence in the home and global warming. This competition is open for public, which is divided into two categories: high school students and amateurs. After a long process, this competition succesfully produced films by the young generation—an effective campaigning tool in schools, institutions, and communities.

Why do we choose film? An unknown author said, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Yes, a picture does speak more than thousand words. We all know that visual effect has a big impact and very powerful. It inspires us to make this as an annual competition. In the year 2008, we made a breakthrough by adding a master class category, which was specialized for those who have already made a documentary film and/or have won a documentary film competition before. The year 2009 become our third year that bring the same themes up and women trafficking as an addition. This is opened for two categories, just like in 2007.
The targets that we would like to achieve from this competition are: for the film-makers to be more concern about many social issues surrounding us; for the audiences to be more aware that these issues are so close to their everyday live. Through this competition, we expected that they will drive themselves to be ‘an agent of change’ according to their own capacity, in their own ways.
